Readings for parents: nine books on education and parenting recommended for the summer

I love vacations for many reasons and one of them is because it allows me to have time to read peacefully on the terrace, at sunset, or in the hammock on the beach. And best of all, without hurry and without falling asleep as during the school year.

Therefore, a few days before going on a trip I like to do my homework and look for those new titles that have escaped me in recent months due to lack of time. And I thought that the recommended books on education and parenting They can also be useful for more mothers and fathers.

I anticipate that I agree 100 percent with my partner Silvia Díaz on some of her essentials, in case you still have them marked as pending. I love Carlos González's books, a pediatrician whom I admire and with whom I have worked a lot over the last few years in family media.

But there are also other younger pediatricians who are people of my devotion. This is the case of Lucía Galán Bertrand, and not only because she is Asturian like me. From his blog and through the pages of his books, he gets close to the pediatrician and offers practical advice that I know from experience that do work. He captivated me with his book "You are a wonderful mother", where he talked about the good and the bad of motherhood. And precisely his last book is one of my recommendations. But there are some more.

1. The best of our lives

To understand what the book is about, nothing better than reading what its author, Lucía Galán, writes about him: "It is a passionate journey of a mother, a pediatrician. A journey through the intense and revealing world of emotions of our children, with whom you will feel identified from the first page, where I find myself in the parlor, terrified but immensely happy, until the difficult but at the same time inspiring stage of adolescence.

What does my son feel? What do I feel as a mother? Or you as a father? A reading not to waste a single minute of the lives of our children, moments that will no longer return. What would you like your children to remember about you and their childhood when they are older? Dare to discover it! "

Alison Gopnik, Professor of Psychology and Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Berkeley (California), is a figure of recognized international prestige in the study of learning and child development. And in this book he tries to make us understand that our job as parents is not to 'carve' a child to turn him into a particular adult model. Based on the latest scientific discoveries on how children learn, he explains that our work has to be like caring for a garden: to procure a fertile, stable and safe environment that allows many varieties of flowers to thrive.

Create a vigorous and flexible ecosystem that facilitates children themselves to develop many, varied and unpredictable types of future adults.
