Double exceptionality

When we talk about "double exceptionality" we refer to a child who unites two special characteristics: he is gifted and also has a Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

This double situation can significantly influence the child's school development, because, because it has concentration or attention difficulties, does not achieve the results that his intelligence would expect, although, without a doubt, this is a characteristic that he shares with many gifted children who fail to find adequate attention to their interests and abilities in the school system.

These children also perceive that, even if they feel capable of performing some tasks, the final execution of these tasks will be below their expectations, although, giftedness if you can help them to achieve greater concentration and ease in learning if the stimuli you receive are interesting enough to get you to work productively thanks to your intellectual endowment.

For counselors and educators, the difficulty in adapting the curriculum to the needs and abilities of these doubly exceptional children is great, since there are no combined strategies that address both circumstances.

The way to meet the educational needs of Children with "double exceptionality" it would be a combination of strategies at school and at home, which allowed them to develop their abilities without excessive corsetation, giving them confidence in their abilities and allowing them to develop them in an alternative way to the usual way. Let's not forget, many of the great geniuses of Humanity presented difficulties in school and had no particularly remarkable results.
